TAROT FOR DREAMERS

The gateway to the invisible must be visible. This is a cardinal rule of the Western imagination, and in this class in practical magic, we will learn how to journey to extraordinary places by borrowing from the great treasure house of images of Tarot. We値l learn to use Tarot cards as mirrors of the self, as guides to relationship, and as clues to what may be going to unfold. We値l follow the play of earth and air, wind and water, in the alternation of suits, and read patterns of manifestation in the rhythms of the numbers. We値l get to know the members of the Tarot court, and recognize how their comings and goings show us people and aspects of our own personalities that are coming into play in our lives. In the movements of the major arcana, we値l study the influence of the transpersonal, dynamic forces Jung called the archetypes.

We値l learn and practice basic skills of divination. As dreamers, we値l go beyond traditional card reading and hand-me-down attributions. We値l journey, with shamanic drumming, using Tarot images as doorways to hidden realms. We値l travel on Tarot paths on the Tree of Life that can take us to places of discovery and initiation on the inner planes. We値l follow the play of Tarot images in our dreams, and get a second opinion on certain dreams from Tarot. We値l perform Tarot theatre, speaking and embodying the powers and elements evoked by the cards, or the powers and elements they evoke. We値l use Tarot spreads and Tarot journeys to create original stories. We値l learn the art of Tarot journaling, and how to check our readings against subsequent events and the weave of synchronicity in the larger world. You will be invited to design and draw orr paint three personal Tarot cards by the end of the workshop.

Preparation: No extensive familiarity with Tarot is required, but if you are new to Tarot you値l want to get ready by acquiring a deck and drawing a daily card. Before you look up what it is supposed to mean in the book or booklet that comes with the deck, sit with the card for a while and see what you feel and notice. Then do your reading, and pay attention to what happens later that day, and check whether the card alerted you to anything that was developing.

What to bring: You need to bring either the Rider-Waite or the Thoth deck. You may also bring a deck that is a personal favorite, or a new one for experiment with 吐resh eyes. You will also need a notebook you can use as your Tarot Journal and your own basic art supplies (some art supplies will be provided).
